Happy 78th Independence Day, Sri Lanka! 🇱🇰

Today we celebrate not just freedom, but the unbreakable spirit of a nation that has risen, time and again, against all odds.

We are the descendants of kings who built Sigiriya touching the clouds. We carved entire cities from rock at Anuradhapura when much of the world was still in darkness. We created irrigation systems 2,000 years ago that engineers still marvel at today.

We faced 30 years of conflict — and we found peace. Our armed forces, our sons and daughters, brought an end to one of the world's longest civil wars. They gave us back our tomorrow.

When the ocean turned against us in 2004, we buried our loved ones and rebuilt our homes with the same hands. When floods swept through our streets, we carried our neighbours on our shoulders. When the economy shook, we queued with dignity, shared what little we had, and kept going.

And somewhere in between all of this — we lifted a Cricket World Cup. We showed the world that a tiny island of 22 million could stand among giants and WIN.

This is who we are.
We are not a nation that breaks. We are a nation that bends, learns, and comes back stronger.

To every farmer waking before dawn.
To every mother stretching a meal to feed one more.
To every soldier who stood guard so we could sleep.
To every teacher, doctor, entrepreneur refusing to give up.
YOU are Sri Lanka's greatest resource.

The past has tested us. The present challenges us. But the future? The future belongs to us — if we choose to build it together.

Let this Independence Day remind us: we have survived everything history threw at us. Imagine what we can achieve when we truly unite.
